. Founded in 1939 by Pete Gerber, the company is now owned by Finnish outdoor products giant Fiskars. Gerber is recognized as the largest producer of knives and multitools for the U.S. armed forces. One of their notable products, the LMF II Infantry Knife, has a partial tang blade to help prevent electric shocks, as it was designed to free pilots from downed aircraft. Gerber also made history as the first knife company to partner with a custom knife maker, teaming up with World War II craftsman David Murphy. In 2010, Bear Grylls collaborated with Gerber to create a line of survival knives, including the best-selling Ultimate knife, later expanding the range to items like water bottles, survival kits, and tinder grinders.
