I bought this sharpener recently so that I could sharpen katanas without damaging the blades. This little sharpener does indeed work. I read the instructions and watched the video online. I used it with the thumb grip facing up and pulled the blades through the pins at a 90 degree angle to the sharpener. It works very well. I also used it on some kitchen knives and pocket knives with no problems. Just remember to oil the pins before you start sharpening and this little tool will work great. It doesn’t work as well if you don’t lubricate the pins. I used 3-1 oil. I really think this is more of a honing tool as it hardly removes any metal from the blade.

The block sharpener is the best I have ever used. It gets the job done. It will take any blade from dull to sharp after a few strokes on the sharpener. I took a dull knife and a dull knife with a good edge on it and sharpened. The one that was dull with no edge didn’t do anything. The knife with a dull but good edge sharpened to better than new. It cuts papper like nothing.

This is such a great sharpener. Mount it to a table, oil it up. Im not used to having to push in on a sharpener. I used it on all my dull kitchen knives. And a katana sword. This sharpener is the best thing i have ever used. Keep it oiled. And wash the silver goop out of the rods. Dry it off, and oil it up. I used corn oil. Worked great.

Great product and takes the skill work out of honing. I use a great jig sharpener to bring the edge back out on all of my knives from kitchen to pocket, before purchasing that system I saw this product pop up on YouTube and while I think the home-made ads about this tool are misleading it does a great job for what I use it for now.
Without any prior knowledge on sharpening methods I felt that the message on this product was that this tool is all you need to get your knives sharp again; this product does NOT repair damaged and chipped blades and simply running a worked edge through this system will not repair an edge and get a worked knife sharp again.
Once I did more research on how to repair a damaged edge and maintain a great cutting edge in between sharpening sessions this is a go to tool for my kitchen use.
Utilizing this product as a guided honing tool is awesome and I use it to hone my kitchen knives every single time before use and it’s pulled out every time we cook.
