The original manufacturer of the Block Sharpener, Paul Block Jr., is pictured with his grandson and the new Block Sharpener model. Our genuine Block Sharpener used 1018 gold honing steel from 1969 until 2014, before switching to D-2 steel, which we continue to use today.
