Our original Block Sharpener, made in America, utilized 1018 gold honing steel from 1969 until 2014, before transitioning to the D-2 steel we use today. Designed to restore blades to their factory edge, it features a patented flex-handle design that automatically adjusts to your knife’s original cutting angle (17° to 28°), unlike traditional “pull-through” sharpeners that can damage metal and create uneven bevels.

Key Benefits-Genuine Original Block sharpener
Universal Compatibility: Effortlessly sharpens everything from kitchen and pocketknives to hunting gear, scissors, hatchets, and even long machetes.
The Serrated Blade Specialist: Finally, a safe way to sharpen serrated bread and steak knives. The high-Rockwell honing steels glide between teeth to restore sharpness without damaging the blade’s profile.
Preserves Blade Life: Because it realigns and hones rather than shaving off metal, your favorite knives stay sharp longer and last for generations.
Versatile Compatibility: It is effective on a wide variety of tools, including kitchen knives, hunting knives, pocketknives, hatchets, machetes, and scissors.
Serrated Blade Care: A standout feature is its ability to sharpen serrated edges, such as bread or steak knives, without damaging the individual teeth. The original Military green honing steels featured a gold finish and were made from heat-treated 1018 steel, forming a key part of the classic Block sharpeners introduced in 1969. Today’s Block sharpeners are built from tough polyurethane plastic reinforced with fiberglass, with yellow-highlighted, non-slip grips on both sides. In 2019, we upgraded our honing rods to D2 tool steel for greater hardness and improved heat-treated performance, making them capable of honing even the hardest blades. The updated design now comes in a sleek silver finish.
